When you work with Sandium, you are working with an owner of the company or a 100% employee of the company. Unlike many contracting firms, we don’t hire commissioned salespeople, nor do we use subcontractors to install and service your equipment. Mechanical Engineer
Originally from Hong Kong, Michael earned both his bachelors and masters degrees in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. His graduate work involved development of tools to use in conjunction with building energy analysis software. After graduation he spent 11 years working for The Trane Company, a major comfort system manufacturer in various disciplines including building analysis tools development, comfort system controls, and commercial building performance contracting. Michael co-founded Sandium in 2001 and is responsible for new system installation and engineering.
Nik originally hails from from Salzburg, Austria. Among the many hats that he wears, Nik is Sandium's field operations manager and general "go to" person to make sure that systems are sized and installed according to Sandium's quality standards. Before earning a degree in Economics Europe, Nik played futbol ("soccer" as we call it) at a professional level in Europe. The stamina of a professional sportsman has served him well at Sandium -- From early in the morning, until late at night, Nik works hand-in-hand with our crews to get the job done.
Jake, Senior Technician
Jake, short for "Jacob", is our lead technician. He was born into heating and air conditioning family. Jake's father once explained that "at five years old, Jake was so curious about how things worked, that he would take them apart... what was even more surprising that even at a young age he could put them back together and they would work even better!" For all things mechanical, Jake has an uncanny ability to zero in on exactly the part that is not working. We have had customers tell us that Jake was the first technician who was able to solve a furnace problem that others had given up on. In his spare time, Jake can be found tinkering and inventing. He currently is converting an old refrigerator into an energy-efficient heat pump.
